Course curriculum - 3 CEUs

This 3-hour clinical training explores the intersection of autism and gender identity, equipping mental health professionals with practical, evidence-based strategies for supporting autistic transgender and gender-diverse clients. Participants will examine current research on the increased prevalence of gender diversity among autistic individuals, explore how autistic traits may influence gender exploration and expression, and learn to distinguish between autism-related characteristics and gender dysphoria during clinical assessment. The course also addresses common co-occurring mental health concerns, family dynamics, and practical therapeutic interventions that affirm both autistic and gender-diverse identities. Through case examples and clinical application, participants will learn how to integrate Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindful Self-Compassion into their work with autistic transgender and gender-diverse clients. This course is grounded in a neurodiversity-affirming framework and does not teach Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This course is approved for 3 core continuing education hours through the University of Georgia School of Social Work, an ASWB Approved Continuing Education provider, for social workers, professional counselors, and marriage and family therapists, and qualifies as related continuing education for psychologists.
